It's Frustrating

Seemingly rational people will natter for hours about our dependence on foreign oil as the root of (nearly) all evil while Exxon Mobil breaks another earnings record in the third quarter just ended. The problem isn't the nationality of the oil, it's that Big Oil doesn't give a rat's ass about America or any other country and we all just line up for it: "Please, sir, might I have another."

Sooooooooooooo true!!!!!! When I bought my car last year, my prime consideration was gas mileage. I refused to give those thieves anything more than I had to -- and I don't understand the fascination with SUVs, monster trucks, and assorted other guzzlers -- most of the people I know who have them rarely carry more than two people and/or groceries -- so what's the point? Do they like kvetching about the price of gas? My lil' red car gets me where I want to go at a reasonable cost for today's market and there's plenty of room in her hatchback for my needs.

What happened to energy conservation?

I don't have much sympathy for Exxon or any of the oil companies and wish we weren't so goldarned dependent on that black gold. Guess they're trying to lay up earnings to sustain them for the day for which I long when we don't need their oily product.

You're making some really good points on the Calif. ballot issues in previous posts. Calif. is in such a financial mess!

I read you've had some connectivity problems, too. Am still battling mine. Am thinking of switching ISP but don't know if Verizon will be any better.
