I'm having a moment of frustration with the way corporate media and politics can totally bury the lead and change the conversation. General Clark didn't say that Senator McCain wasn't a military hero; he said that a fighter pilot, however great he was as a tactician or heroic in combat and in captivity, isn't necessarily any better or more knowledgeable in global strategic planning than someone who sat out the war entirely. (Witness the lack of military backgrounds in Department of Defense civilians.)
In a country in which W. gets elected to the presidency twice, and Arnold gets elected governor of California twice, one wonders when or if people will ever wake up and appreciate the mess we're in. What will finally be their inducement to recapture the patriotism of their forefathers, or will they finally just submit.
We're talking about the future of mankind and we're talking about it like we're in junior high school... a poorly performing junior high school.

Boy, you nailed that. If they can distort something, they will. McCain has been asked the question of what in his POW experience would make him a better leader and he refused to answer it. If he doesn't know, why does he think we should think it does. Clark got slammed for saying something that made sense. It didn't put down the experience or the courage but there are terrible people who have done great deeds. McCain shouldn't be allowed to run on something that many years before but the MSM is letting him get away with it.

If there's a way to distort what is said, someone will do so is ever so right. Nice of you to straighten it out so well. I'd certainly like to see our mass media address the matter at least as well.
A friend recently sent me a wonderful diatribe by Lee Iaccoca(sp?--still on my first cuppa), and he let 'em have it, too. Sorry I deleted it. GOod succinct job there, sir!
I get embarrassed to be a Californian, but we get what we deserve if fokks dno't learn the issues and vote for real change agents. We don't forget the chimp's actor friend who made it big, either...arghhh.

I happened to discover your blog just now. What a great post...you've made my afternoon! I've been ticked about the malicious and manipulative handling of Clark's remark ever since he had the courage to make it. What's so worrisome is how well distortions and manipulations like these are working in this campaign year. Weren't we read "The Emperor's New Clothes" as a fable to be learned from?
